Telecast rites

The telecast rights of the India West Indies series went to NEO sports and as a result they didn’t allow DD or All India radio to air the match. Well in this case I feel that NEO sports as well as the host broadcasters are right. Neo sports is right because they have paid a huge amount of money get the rights and the host broad casters are right because an even going in the country must be viewed or heard by all the people in the country and neo sports can be viewed only by small percentage of people.

There can be 2 ways of solving the problem. One way is to give the rights the host broadcaster, i.e. there should be no bids for the rights all matches must be shown by the host broadcasters and if they want they can sell the viewing rights to some other channels also. The other way is that have bids for the rights and the host broadcaster should be allowed to air the show using the channels name that has given them the rights and with the ads of the channel. The host broadcaster can make money by doing pre match shows, lunch time as well as post time shows.

Broadcasting matches is attached with big money. Its not good business to waste money. So BCCI(Board of Control of Cricket in India) would prefer to give the rights to the highest bidder, not the host broadcaster who doesn’t have that much money power. Showing the exact copy of another channel is not very economical for the host broadcaster. Some how a compromise must be reached. I feel that if the match is showed in DD as well as in some other private channel, people who can view the private channel will prefer to view that channel due to its superior programming. So I don’t think the channel will lose much money.

Matches happening in India must available for every 1 o view, may it be the rich or the poor. I don’t think the private channels can get away by not sharing their rights. So in their interest they should come up with some solution that will make every 1 happy, because if they go to court or take on the politicians the outcome will always be unfavorable for them. By finding a solution they are giving the people an impression that they too care about the people and hence improving the popularity of the channel. Hope that this dispute gets sorted out soon and all of us can do what we love to do, that is watch cricker.
